Wireless CCTV cameras
Wired CCTV cameras requires cables to be run from the DVR or NVR to the CCTV camera depending on type of camera is being installed depends on the type of cable used.
Analogue HD cameras requires RG59 cable also known as shotgun cable. The cable is designed to transmits video signal through the coxial side of the cable and power through the 2 core power side of the cable the most popular camera signal types which use RG59 cable are TVI, CVI, AHD and SDI. IP Network /IP CCTV cameras requires Cat5 or Cat6 cables to be run which transmits video, power and even audio through a single cable this is also known as POE (Power Over Ethernet).
POC cameras also known as (Power over Coaxial) means that power, video and audio signals can all be transmitted via coaxial, Cat5 and Cat6 cables. This removes the requirement for separate CCTV power supplies, additional microphones and cables for audio which would otherwise be needed.
On a site visit we will look at the key locations for CCTV cameras to be installed and look at cable routes to determine methods to be used to install the cables such as clipping, capping, conduit and trunking.
Wireless CCTV cameras require power but have a built-in transmitter in the camera and receiver in the recorder. A transmitter and receiver can be added to most analogue cameras to transmit signals. Wireless CCTV is ideal for situations where cable cannot be run directly between camera and recorder but a source of power is available.
IP Cameras
IP cameras have superior image resolution, intelligence and analytics. IP cameras transmits truly digital signals. IP cameras can detect motion, smoke, heat, count people, object entry/ exit, Object entry/ removal detection.
IP CCTV cameras comes in various types but features remain the same. Camera lens size is important to capture the desired area. The most common sizes are from 2.8mm which offers wide angled to12mm which is a more zoomed in narrow image. Resolution and clarity depends on the megapixel count on a camera sensor, the greater the amount of megapixel the greater the amount of detail that can be captured the most commonly used cameras are 2MP, 5MP and 8MP cameras.
The more detail that needs to be captured and the longer the CCTV footage is to be stored for the bigger the hard drive storage space is required in the NVR. Surveillance hard drives come in various storage sizes, depending on how much data is to be stored and the amount of time the footage is to be stored for will determine what capacity surveillance hard drive you require.
